Independent Master’s Theses

Written Master’s theses are generally completed within the framework of a seminar.

In exceptional cases, it is possible to write a Master’s thesis in the field of Public International Law under the supervision of Prof Oliver Diggelmann outside a taught course (cf. § 41 of the Study Regulations of the Faculty of Law). If you are interested, please contact us with a concrete topic proposal at lst.diggelmann@ius.uzh.ch.

If sufficient supervisory capacity is available and the proposed topic fits the academic profile of our Chair, we will contact you and ask you to submit a draft outline, including the following elements:

  • Title of the thesis
  • Exposé (maximum one A4 page) containing at least one specific research question
  • Provisional structure of the thesis
  • Where applicable, a provisional bibliography and/or list of cases

On the basis of these documents, a final decision on supervision will be taken if appropriate. The timetable must be planned in such a way that the thesis can be submitted by 10 June for the Spring Semester or by 10 December for the Fall Semester.
